Latin American Culture.

This paper is on "Latin American Culture". It includes the description of Latin American (i.e. LA) colonial society's political, social and government structures, how did the colonization of Latin America differ from the historical foundations of the U.S.? It also discusses the ideals that motivated Spanish and Portuguese voyages and how these were carried over to colonial and neocolonial societies in Latin America. The second part of the paper includes the four models prominent in Latin American politics, and describes specific political regimes that exemplify each (if one exists). Which of these models is most compatible with Latin America's political culture and Hispanic legacy? Why? Do you think democratization in L.A. has succeeded or failed? It also includes the factors that led to the Cuban Revolution of 1959? And how did these events change U.S. foreign relations with Latin America? What were the ingredients of US anti-communist efforts in L.A.? Discuss 3 occasions where the US was involved with the overthrow of a Latin Am. country. Why did the US support these coups? Was it justified during the cold war and did repressive tactics justify economic booms that sometimes accompanied authoritarian regimes? What are new social movements and how are they different from those of the past? Give examples of at least 3 and describe the goal, history, and methods of each. What are the factors that led to these movements and have they been a success or failure and how have governments reacted to them? What is the difference between economic migrants and political refugees, and how has US immigration policy differed toward each group? Discuss the push and pull factors for rural to urban migration, interregional migration and the migration to the Caribbean and the US. Do you think that L.A. migration is an asset or problem for the US? In the end it gives the description of what were the five phases of economic restructuring in LA history? Discuss the basic characteristics of each and what motivated each.
