Deafness - A Life Without Sound

It is hard for a normal 'hearing' person to even try to understand the concept of living on a day-to-day basis in a world of silence. This essay touches briefly on the history of deafness, explains some rather unusual techniques used in history to 'cure' deafness, and then goes on to explain a few of the new procedures available today, in particular Total Communication which is a communication method that any deaf person can use, either with or without implants.
