This essay describes the factors that created the personality and gender identity of an Arabian student. Developing a gender identity is a multi-faceted process. Biology, family influences, social influences, and basic personality traits all impact how the individual will define him or her self. As an Islamic male the dominant forces in the development of my gender identity have been family, faith, and my social environment. My gender identity not only includes my sexuality, but my social roles, responsibilities, and activities. Each element of my gender identity is dependant upon the others and only together do they form a cohesive whole that promotes my positive self-image.
