Can North Korea Become a Democracy

This six-page graduate paper examines the issue of North Korea’s potential as a democracy. The author presents a dissertation proposal based upon research into North Korea’s past history and present problems, and notes that the study of other political societies has confirmed that democracy has little chance of developing in any country if education is not provided to the young, if the economy is a wreck, and if political and economic corruption are allowed to infest every level of society. He concludes that North Korea has as much chance as any other communist country to develop democracy, but that much assistance would be needed from the international community.
