dance and religion of West African cultures-Mali,ghana, and Senegal

This paper briefly identifies the concepts of religious and cultural significance found within the dances or Mali, Ghana, and Senegal. In doing so, this paper demonstrates how the study of dance from these societies can help the American observer to identify and appreciate the themes found within West African dance. This paper concludes in comparing the perceived identities of West African societies – specifically the impression of primitive savages with no differentiation despite massive geological territory – in respect to the image created in dance.
